[SYNOPSIS]

The collaboration of Noor Ali Chagani and Clio Lloyd-Jacob is rooted in the forms and functions of brick and clay architecture in domestic, sacred and public spaces. They seek to highlight the cultural inheritances held in building patterns and the security, transformation and containment that we seek from built environments.

For Award 2025, they presented hand-built, precarious scale models interpreting existing buildings from their broad cultural heritages, alongside large-scale drawing using clay on paper.

[TRANSCRIPT]

"Brick represents the idea of home — having your own brick, having your own roof. A sensibility of possession, of remembrance, of nostalgic feeling.

She broke them actually. I held the wall over a concrete pavement and dropped it. That was early on in the collaboration and he didn't give up on me.

When I came here, I was thinking of myself as a chimney — at some point before, a very important part of a home, but now it is not. The function of artwork is a place where we can allow ourselves to imagine something that we can't have in life."
