ECHO WOOD
LUKE JERRAM - SHORT DOCUMENTARY - CLIENT | AVON NEEDS TREES - NOVEMBER 25

[SYNOPSIS]
Artist Luke Jerram teams up with charity Avon Needs Trees to create a piece of living artwork which Luke will never see finished within his lifetime: a spiralled forest of 365 trees — one for each day of the year, planted in a formation that will only be fully visible from above, and only fully grown a century from now.
The film follows Luke through the early stages of the project — the planning, the planting, and the conversations that reveal what it means to make something for the future. It sits at the intersection of land art, conservation, and deep time thinking.

[TRANSCRIPT]
“We are all creative, and we can, through our actions, have an impact on the world. It’s up to us to think about what impact we’re going to have.
We are literally growing an artwork out of 365 trees, arranged in concentric circles that will lead people through avenues of blossoming trees at certain times of year. Right in the middle there’ll be a circular space with twelve oak trees — a gathering place for the community. It’s almost like a kind of Stonehenge, but made of trees that will be growing.
I hope people will make a conscious decision to say, let’s go to Echo Wood today. Perhaps in thirty years’ time, a couple might decide to get married there. I’m hoping it’ll become a resource for the community, and a lovely place to connect with one another.”
